Independence Day: Nolan's 1st and Lauren's 3rd!

The day started off with mommy heading to the gym for an exercise class.  The kiddos and daddy stayed home.  Mommy had selected 4th of July outfits for the kiddos.  Lauren had her own opinion though.  Even though she had previously worn her red, white, and blue dress with stars, she stated that she wanted to wear a different one and that she would wear that one "tomorrow."  Oh well!  Nolan was in his red, white, and blue gear...and we headed off for lunch and the Richfield parade.  Our plan was to go eat yummy Broadway Pizza.  We got there just in time to dine and head to the parade route...only to find that it was closed.  We headed to another Bloomington local joint, Zeek's, but found that was also closed!  Much to Lauren's delight, we ended up at a franchise...McDonalds!  I would've much rather had pizza, but at least we got to spend time as a family.  After our meal at McDs, we headed to the parade.  It was a hot one (upper 80s to low 90s), but I think Lauren had fun pointing out the princesses and the drums.  Nolan slept through most of it.  We were all so hot, so we had planned to stop for ice cream.  However, Lauren fell asleep in the car, so we headed home instead.

After quiet time, we ate supper and headed outside for the all-American finish to the 4th of July holiday:  FIREWORKS!  Okay, so nothing like we did when I was growing up, but Lauren enjoyed snaps, baby fireworks that stay on the ground, and of course her first sparklers!  Daddy helped Lauren play safely with fire.  He lit the fireworks as Lauren intently watched on (at a distance!)...she was careful with the fire and held the sparklers way out.  Lauren's first fireworks were a success!  No burns...but the bugs were HORRIBLE!  Nolan enjoyed watching on in his jammies and in my arms.  Then the neighbor girl and I took a walk and watched fireworks in the Shakopee skyline.
