HIS Story

I'd like to think that it all began when we talked about evicting him at my appointment on Tuesday.  The same thing happened with Lauren.  She didn't want to face the reality of the "real" world, but after we talked about induction at my final appointment she decided to face the facts and come on her own.  So, I was able to finish my work week (at 41 weeks prego) including continuing to see kiddos!  I had an appointment on Thursday afternoon to discuss our "eviction" plan should I have been far enough along to induce.  I was awoken with a surprise of contractions on Thursday early in the am...and so Mr. Nolan began his descent into this world.  Contractions were about 5 minutes apart in the early am, so Brian decided to stay home and work from here.  Then of course they spaced out after I called my midwife.  She recommended going to the mall for a walk.  What a recommendation!  So, my good friend, Heidi, and I took her two kiddos and Lauren to the mall for some "retail therapy" and some walking.  After we had lunch, my contractions were close together again.  We drove back to Shakopee and arrived shortly after the grandparents made it to our house.  We hung out for about an hour, then said good-bye thinking we'd see them all in less than an hour.  Little did we know that at my appointment, they would send us immediately to the hospital!  I had progressed far enough at home and the mall without any help and was 4 cm!  We got settled in and labor progressed from there (about 9 pm I was 8 cm).  We thought for sure he would be a March 31 baby.  However, he just couldn't get in the right position when I was pushing.  He was acyclitic (meaning his head and shoulder were trying to come out at the same time).  We had a few scares with decreases in heart rate when I would push.  They ended up calling in a doctor (instead of my midwife), as well as the OR.  They even had Brian and I prepped for surgery.  However, by some miracle from above, Nolan some way, some how found his way out.  After almost 1 1/2 hours of pushing, our sweet little miracle was born.  His apgar scores were great:  initially an 8, then a 9.  Woo hoo!  He's been a champion eater and a wonderful snuggler.  We're so excited to introduce him to the world.
