This morning was Lauren's first trip to the dentist. This nervous mom did as much as I could to prep her for the experience including talking the dentist up (i.e., telling her the dentist's name, how he will count her teeth, how he will help keep her teeth clean and healthy, etc.) and reading books about the dentist for about a week. Then, when we got to the dentist, Lauren watched mommy go first. The hygienist was great too. She explained about all the equipment and let Lauren see it. Lauren was very curious and watched closely. Then when the dentist came in to check my teeth, Lauren was sitting in the chair with me. He was also great and let her watch as he counted mommy's teeth. Then we got a ride in the cool dentist chair. When mommy was all done, Lauren climbed up in the dentist's chair all by herself. She sat and waited for her turn (for them to prepare all the equipment, etc.). All mommy had to do is watch. Lauren just sat there and let the hygienist mess in her mouth. The hygienist was able to clean, polish, count, and floss Lauren's teeth. Then she let Lauren pick out a toothbrush...a princess one nonetheless! Then the dentist came in and check Lauren's teeth out. Overall, healthy teeth (for both) and a wonderful first experience for her. This made for one proud mama moment!
