Lauren's been doing swimming lessons since she was 15 months old (on and off)....Most recently, she's gone from September until now. It's been AMAZING to watch her grow and swim like a fish even just from week to week. Last week, I remember teacher talking to me about Lauren needing to work on endurance. This week, she nailed it! She was able to swim from one side of the pool to the other unassisted without floatation. And she wanted to do it again and again and again.....Since she's only 3 1/2, I thought for sure she'd need to take "Eel" over again. She fooled me! It's midterms and she's already mastered all of the "Eel" skills. I asked her if she wanted to take the next class. Then her teacher proceeded to tell her about what is in the class: learning new strokes and beginning to tread water so she can earn her pink bracelet. (At the YMCA, that means you can go anywhere in the pool without a parent including down the slide). Lauren has had the goal to be able to go down the slide basically since we joined the YMCA when she was 18 months old! (Okay, so she was a bit older...because first, I told her that the slide was broken every time that she asked to go down it. Then I decided she needed to know the truth about the slide. Since she found out the truth before she was two, Lauren has had the goal to go down the slide. Thus, she has decided to continue with swimming lessons. I guess we have a goal-oriented daughter on our hands!
