Happy 2nd Birthday, Lauren!

The week of birthday celebrations began last weekend by celebrating with Grandma Bonnie, Grandpa Dave, & Aunt Noel on Friday nite. We had a delicious supper of roast beef, potatoes, and carrots. Then topped it off with chocolate cupcakes with yellow frosting per Lauren's request. After mommy showed her how to blow out one candle, Lauren caught on quickly and blew out the other. The frosting was her favorite part. Then onto gifts. Lauren loved opening presents, but was more enthralled with putting her new baby stroller together. Maybe we have an engineer in the making?

And then on to her actual birthday, June 2. We were a bit nervous that she wouldn't make it to daycare as she came home with a slight fever on the 1st. She seemed fine and did go to daycare because mommy said she couldn't be sick on her birthday 2 years in a row (last year Lauren also had a fever, not a tradition we want to keep!). After mommy got home from work, we had Lauren's favorite meal...mac'n'cheese and added salmon. Then mommy & daddy sang to Lauren and she blew out the candles on her "ice cream bar" cake. And wanted to blow them out again and again. She was not sure about eating the ice cream bar, but eventually licked all the ice cream out of the middle. Then more presents, but her favorite part of the evening was probably playing with her good friend, Reegan. She talks about playing with Reegan all the time.

The big birthday celebration was on June 5th. It was supposed to be at the "yellow" park, but mother nature had other plans. It pretty much rained all day on Saturday, so we moved the party back to our townhouse...didn't think we could fit 20+ people in a townhouse did ya? Well, let's just say that we quickly prepared the garage to help us "host" and that means we got a clean garage out of the deal. Oh yeah, did I mention that Brian worked until shortly before 2. As soon as he got home, he started to clean the grill and noticed that the bottom rusted out! Yikes! So a few hours before Lauren's party, Brian got his father's day present (a new grill!) and had to put it together. Lucky for us, some of the guests (Lauren's grandpas and uncle Greg) helped with the grill. Grandma Marilyn also helped with cleaning the garage....so we DID have HELP and that's how we pulled it off. :)

The theme was none other than Dora. Brian grilled out hot dogs, brats, and burgers. We topped off the menu with chips and fruit salad and finished with ice cream cake. YUM! Before we even ate, Lauren saw the presents and tugged on my leg stating "Mommy, I want open presents!" We hung out with lots of friends and family. Lauren had two of her best girlfriends here. They had fun running between our driveway and the neighbor's and even got a little gutsy and rang her doorbell a couple times. Oops! I thought that was something you maybe did to someone you knew and maybe a little older than 2! Anyways, they had fun. Then we ate our fab menu, sang to Lauren, and had cake. She loved blowing out the candles and all the little girls wanted to put their fingers in the icing. After cake, we did gifts...Lauren had fun opening them and loves them all....from bubbles, to chalk, to Dora clothes & suitcase, to other clothes, toy food, & a highchair. Great Uncle Bruce helped Lauren put the highchair together....and she even told him HOW to do it when he put the tray on incorrect. To top off the birthday evening, Aunt Mary put Lauren to bed...and she went nice and easy. Let's just say she was exhausted!

Thanks to all who helped us celebrate this special little girl's birthday! We can't imagine life without her!
